JICA and BSEZ Strengthen Industry–BITAC Partnership to Enhance Workforce Quality and Industrial Competitiveness in Bangladesh

On 12 May 2026, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in collaboration with Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ), organized a networking event at the Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Center (BITAC), bringing together BSEZ tenant companies and representatives from the plastic and light engineering sectors. The initiative was undertaken with the broader objective of contributing to the development of a more skilled, competitive, and industry-ready workforce in Bangladesh, recognizing that human capital development is a key driver of sustainable industrial growth.

As part of their ongoing commitment to supporting industrial development beyond infrastructure and investment promotion, JICA and BSEZ facilitated the engagement with BITAC to explore opportunities for strengthening technical know-how, workforce competencies, and practical skills development. The initiative was intended not only to benefit existing and prospective BSEZ investors but also to create a positive and lasting impact on the overall quality of Bangladesh’s industrial workforce by enhancing access to industry-relevant training and technical resources.

Representatives from JICA, BSEZ, BITAC, and various manufacturing and engineering companies participated in the program. During the event, BITAC introduced its ongoing activities and support services for both government and private-sector organizations in the mechanical, manufacturing, and technical fields. Particular emphasis was placed on BITAC’s role in equipping individuals with practical, industry-oriented skills and supporting companies in developing a workforce capable of meeting evolving technological and operational requirements.

BITAC highlighted its expanding nationwide presence, currently operating five training centers across Bangladesh, with six additional centers planned in the near future. The organization offers a wide range of technical and vocational training programs, including several JICA-supported courses provided free of charge. In addition, BITAC develops customized training programs tailored to specific industry needs, enabling companies to enhance employee capabilities and address specialized skill requirements. The organization also regularly organizes job fairs to facilitate employment opportunities for trained graduates.

The networking session provided an opportunity for participants to gain a deeper understanding of BITAC’s capabilities and discuss potential areas of collaboration in workforce development, technical training, and knowledge transfer. Through this initiative, JICA and BSEZ reaffirmed their shared vision of strengthening Bangladesh’s industrial ecosystem by fostering closer collaboration between industry and technical institutions. The discussions reflected a collective commitment to improving workforce quality, developing local technical expertise, and ensuring that both BSEZ investors and the broader industrial sector in Bangladesh have access to the skilled talent necessary for long-term growth and competitiveness.
