Royal Visit: The King of Bhutan captivated by Bangladesh Special Economic Zone’s Remarkable Infrastructure and Operations

His Majesty the King of Bhutan paid a significant visit to Bangladesh’s Special Economic Zone (BSEZ) on March 27, 2024, recognizing it as a model for economic development in Bangladesh.

The visit aimed to understand BSEZ’s success and feasibility study for establishing a Bhutanese Economic Zone in Bangladesh. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including industry types, the robustness of infrastructure within BSEZ, incentives offered by the Bangladesh Government, and the comparative advantages of developing an Economic Zone in Bangladesh over other ASEAN nations.

The presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad A. Arafat, Narayanganj-2 Member of Parliament Nazrul Islam Babu MP, and the Honorable Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Mr. Iwama Kiminori added weight to the meeting. Also in attendance were The Honorable Chairman of BEZA, Mr. Shaikh Yusuf Harun, along with the Project Director; Md. Firoz Uddin and Managing Director; Mr. Taro Kawachi of Bangladesh Special Economic Zone.

This underscores Bangladesh’s prioritization of BSEZ as a model economic zone, with transformative potential not only for Bangladesh but for the entire region.

During the visit, His Majesty toured the Singer Bangladesh Limited’s newly established factory, the inaugural tenant of BSEZ, witnessing their remarkable progress.

The journey to BSEZ marks a pivotal milestone in the trajectory of Bhutan-Bangladesh relations, laying the groundwork for a future defined by shared prosperity and boundless opportunities.

As His Majesty concluded his visit, both nations expressed unwavering optimism about the prospects of enhanced economic collaboration.
